Weddington Golf & Tennis

Weddington Golf & Tennis, a San Fernando Valley landmark, has a history rooted in a sheep ranch and the vision of actor and professional golfer Joe Kirkwood Jr. Originally known as the Joe Kirkwood Jr. Golf Center, the course opened in 1956, with the driving range preceding it in 1955. The property, never a private club, was always open to the public. It was later operated by the McCallister family as Studio City Gold and Tennis Club becoming Weddington Golf & Tennis in 2008.

The original course design replicated fairway greens from famous golf courses around the world. They proved to be too challenging and were later modified to its current configurations.

In 2024, the property was sold to Harvard-Westlake School, which plans to redevelop it into a sports complex.

The original scope of work was not a true HABS project but Dennis Hill, Content Creation took it upon itself to do a voluntary submittal to the Library of Congress Prints and Photograph Collection as part of the Heritage Documentation Program which is overseen by the National Park Service, NPS. It resulted in project survey HABS CA-2989
